Hindu Media

Dear All,
If one remembers, the articles related to Kherlanji Brutal Massacre were reported by one or two local news papers in the initial days of Kherlanji Mishappening. It is generally guessed  that Indian (Print & Electronic) Media`s Coverage Sensitivity Monitors  calculates intensity of issues and then decides on whether to publish it or not. And if it is a Buddhist or Dalit issue, the monitor counts Zero, so no coverage.

However  post Kherlanji, Atrocitynews  constantly encouraged people to educate/persuade Media to highlight Dalit human rights issue . Thanks to  International media ! which took early  cognizance of the Kherlanji call . We understood then that people’s words create social value if they are genuine. Subsequently, with efforts from all of you aware citizens, from last week of October, most of the media, print & electronic then  could able to notice the public wrath in the form of people agitations here and there. It was starnge for Media to notice protest were not lead by any political leader but people themselves. Many organizations not only dalit but from diverse background like OBCs and other religious affiliations extended their participation in the protest making them more secular and global. On the other hand, Indian media was seen engulfed into great confusion that if they didn’t highlight Dalit issues that time atleast, they might envelop themselves into casteist identity, specially, when their international counterpart widely responded very early. It is reported that 12 international papers gave frontline coverage to Mass Buddhist conversion & celebrations of Dhamma Chkra Parivartan Day on 2nd October. BBC took early stance in Kherlanji too.

We could see  domestic media  slowly coming out of the psychosis of  confusion and  joining  in the global campaign against Caste prejudices, as a part of global human rights movement. TOI, NDTV, CNN IBN7 and Tehelka(Tahelka did it right first!)  took solid efforts in taking  Kherlanji to deaf ears that have larger might. But the water is still not clear, we can still sense some deeply perverted views within media circuits those find hard to accept  Kherlanji protest as true secular public protest. Fault is not theirs, State is also responsible in some way.

We saw how Indian police force was making people blind with obnoxious theories of  Naxal links or other terrorist ulterior motives with Kherlanji protest. However in the world of fast communication as of today, the confusions have very little life. These falacies vanish off fast when people communicate. The people empowerment  would happen more as dalit-educated-lot joins level playing positions in every spheres of life and help their rural brethrens. Also in the economic process of communication when Dalits become sizable part of Indian middleclass, no enterprise otherwise would afford to ignore them. We see the free market economy asks for creativity and value creation. Till the time  caste rules elites in India, the essential public services will not have true secular flavour; case is already made into Media and Administartion sector with Kherlanji Massacre. Its also true that one may not be able to add 100% to global creativity, subsequently  standard of living suffers heavily now and then for globe.

Whatever may be the case, the world of prejudices always belittles world creativity. It offers not only individual psychological sufferings but social suffering .To identify the caste fatigue, encouraging free flowing dialogues  among academic and professional spheres is must. It is, though, true that the caste notion will take time to eradicate or may not happen in 100 years or so, but inclusion of diverse views in mainstream media is the best middle path policy to have, it will surely give out more creativity -more artistic expressions, more life sharing that should increase life of the planet. Media has central role to pass on similar messages to every sane being. In this background, we appreciate certain media efforts that brought up Kherlanji story in their main bulletins. But that is not enough , we have 221 Kherlanji happening every year in India. Long way to go!

In case of Kherlanji, when the protest reached pinnacle stage, all local papers took notice of it and put them in different shades on their front page, most of them saw it violent, though, nobody was killed in complete protest. Very few tried to go down to real roots of the suffering. Same is with National media. The learning is slow process, things will take shape and some section of media will find time to learn difference between problem and suffering. Kherlanji has become best case for them to understand social suffering. Learning Indicator is ticking as media makes Kherlanji as a watershed event. We appreciate that, however, we feel deeply strapped for space and time to provide how they covered Kherlanji in last week or so.

But we will try  to convey their view point here ..

B.   Media ills

This is yet another instance of yellow journalism , the Kherlanji episode is crafted to fit in the satisfaction of oppressors.

Crafted news

A Nagpur based Lokmat news agency reported that the reason of massacre was nothing but an  illicit relationship of  mother,Surekha with Siddharth Gajbhiye( albeit they are relatives). This is dengerous journalism that misuses  pen  for short term financial and political gains underestimating the long term fight for equality. Because courage is rare vertue !
Lets engineer a courage and respond to the situation so that human cause remains central to Indian democratic life! Therefore, if you have any views , please write to us on atrocitynews@cooltoad.com
Off late effect: People gathered in Bhandara to burn the  Local News paper, Lokmat in protest against it`s reasoning of illicit relationship in Kherlanji  Massacre. This is cheap Journalism and the news agnecy is responsible for such ill research. May be managed research by Landlords!

untitled_2.jpg

pic1:Public treatment to ill communication

It is interesting to see the market dynamics here. The Dalits in this area are better educated and they are the single most reading community to this news paper for want of any other news paper.  But that could not deter this News agency from publishing the near nature of the case . May be the agency could have got more benefits than mre subscription revenue  tehy get from readers ? Is this  the way Free market economy brings value to society . Markets seemed to be  skewed towards controlling forces of resources  than towards secular forces of demand and supply, atleast in Media circuits.
Result: Meanwhile Police had issued a statement that this is a sheer case of an Atrocity .

C. Plea to media

1. Letter from Pune to Star News

“Dear Star news,

Pease do not promote misinformation about the Nagpur agitation as a political agitation. It is not a political agitation. The citizens are not instigated by any political party, but they are protesting against the heinous caste system. You can find the details of the Khairlanji indidence on https://atrocitynews.wordpress.com .Even after a month, there are lapses in the enquiry process and soem of the culprits are moving free after committing a crime. The incident involved humiliation of mother and her daughter who were paraded naked, gang raped and later killed. The two male members were also killed. Please use the media to tell the truth and for the humanitarian cause.

With regards,

STOP ATROCITY…”

2. Letter to Star News

“Dear Shree Kalra,

We fail to understand consistently why deliberate attempts are made either to completely negate the existence of Dalit movement or ill represent it. More often than not, their struggle is picturised as a politicized event or extension to it.Which infact is not true. Same is happening this time too. When a neo-Buddhist family is exterminated by Castiest mentalities in Kherlanji and police are busy protecting the assailants(some of them roaming around freely terrorizing others), what would people do? The anger is oozing out. Natural is then their coming on the streets and protesting for justice. Positively, till date, the Kherlanji demonstrations and mass protest was conspicuous by the absence of politicians. On the other hand in Nagpur today’s protest, one must notice the crowd has disfigured the pictures of Dalit politicians irrespective of their party affiliations! Moreover the office of sitting Dalit MLA from North was burnt! What does it show? Its not a political event, we must admit people are ready todecide for what they want? They want justice; anger is just a byproduct of media neglect. If media reacts timely just in case of Motto, situations can be different.
We see Nagpur is burning today, tomorrow it will be India, it’s not because Dalits are communal in expressing their anger, it’s because the government machinery is encroached by sterility and corruption.I think in 21st century, star group has big responsibility that it should reflect upon. Does it want to be only a media mogul miniting money or a pillar of world democracy fighting for real cause? Choice is already made if Star is to lead people into better civilization; they have to show real courage to portray real issue and become party to world peace.
The fight for equality is not stopping here even if voices are not heard, you can check it out on www.atrocitynews.wordpress.com
. People`s forum from last 20 days updating the latest on Kherlanji Massacre. Completely non-political effort !
Much media can do for humanity, Take lead, Have courage!

Upper Castes Hindus are applying their Manusmrity to tackle the indigenious people to whom they understand untouchables.

In the eyes of Constitution and Law it is an henious crime and the culprites should not the spared. They must be killed with the same digree of brutelity which has been used by them with the victimes.

Hindus have made Women Commision for entertainment, they don’t bother about the indigenious people. Otherwise the digree of this henious brutality is live evidence to prove their this sick mentality.

    dear friends,

i am very straight to say that we should show much more courage to stop subscribing any newspaper which write against dalit, buddhist and human values in whatever means because indian main stream media are still dominated by the strong facist/ fundamentalist attitudes towards any progressive step that help dalit to grow independantly.

therefore, we are now able to think and act for our development without receiving any, wrong guidance from so-called caste hindus media, mainly because Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar showed us the path to liberation.

I agree with Nagsen Sonare. The entire Mass media and print media neglected the occasion of Dhamma Deeksha Suvarna Mohotsava and kherlanji news.Gujrat & MP Goverment also make law about “Dharmantaran” which is dangerous to buddhism & janisam. It is the principal of media that they neglacte entire news on buddhist. We are Dr.Babasaheb Ambedkar follower’s and we show world that, we are able to change the attitude of electronic media towards buddhism in early year’s.

  10. kill the culprites of bhotmange family same way,so that in future no body dare to do such thing with dalit family……

Casteist Media of this casteist nation India. Kherlanji is the gift given by this casteist nation to the Buddhist of this country on the occassion of Dhamma Deksha Suvarna Mohotsava, and the entire Electronics Media have neglected the Kherlanji news and throw that news in their spam box. Some Print madia have show that news but Presented it in wrong manner saying there was sexual relation between Police Patil Gajbhije and Surekha, see the print media of this country and how they manage everything I think that Times, Loksatta and Lokmat Editors in their houses have sextual relation with their sister therefore they all think that this would might have happen but i want to tell them all that We ambedkarite follow Buddhism not Hinduism this all has happened and is happening in Hindu community, we know our culture and we knows yours What Bharma did to his own daughter, What vishnu did to Jalandhar wife Vurnda so don’t teach us about that We buddhist of this country condemn the entire Electronics Media for the same, and I warn them if they behave the same and their attitude toward buddhist if not change, What happen in Nagpur that can happen in Casteist Indian Electronics media.Electronics media of indias called 40th birthday of shahrukh khan as their breaking news but the Messacre of Buddhist in Kherlanji wont become their short news this reflect their casteist nature

This incident is a very shameful to the Huminity. In India the Cast system is the child of the caste system. In the Khairlanji the Budddhist family was the very well educated and High educated family means the sons and daughters.
In this viallage no one other casts family dont take that type of education; this family means Bhootmange family is the topper in that village in education therefor other community Means Uppercast commmunity hate them and this is the result to destroy them In future No one can dare to repeat that type of Incident Accused persons will be givethe regid and hard Punishment to them.

All accused Must be Hange Untill Death !.

Under Section 302 Of IPC and U/ 3(10) of the
    Atrocity Act.

i found this site by milind while i was surfing in buddhist category at orkut, com. when i read facts of that case i feel very sad that police persons were supporting the guiltys and print media was giving dangious/faulty news about surekha bhotmange’s illicit relationship with police patil siddharth ganjbhiye .

3.All foreign Industries who do not accept reservation policy
Govt. Have Lands to distribute to the Industries like Tata- Birla- Ambani Etc but shelters of the poors are taken away to provide the same land to the industralists.Taxes of Tata- Birla- Ambani Etc are in Millions are not yet paid to the govenment why the government

Conviction rate in Atrocity and PCR cases is Just 2.5% this signifies that the Nations want casteism to practise in this nation for another centuries to come they think that indiegeneous people are born to serve them are our womens are there to satisfies their sexual needs.Today also Devdasi System are practised in India and what indian government has done to demolished that? Britishers were far more better

This country will have to pay for all that, for 2500 years this country has practise untouchability and even after the independence not much has improved in india.

This country’s Casteist Prime Minister is going abroad and teaching others a lesson of Secularism, Liberlisation but in his own country more than 250 Millions are far away from their basic needs

    Dear Brothers !!

What should i say to media ! yesterday it was 6th Dec, we all know the importance of the day.
All the people gather at mumbai from all parts of India as well as some from abroad, to pay tributes to one the greatest man of India.
It was really shamful on the electroinic media part..as the way they were projecting the news that @ 10L peaople has gathered and all the traffic is jammed people are not able to come out os the house bla bla bla… rather than covering the sentiments of the people and understanding the importance of the day… they were showing it in a totally negative way…do they feel the same when people gather at Kashi/Varanasi/ Nashik / for the Kumbh melas etc. Do the people not suffer at that time ?…!
This is really disgusiting what can we expect from such a baised media!!
I wish that they take a note of this else who amongst us is going to have faith in them!!

    Rgds,

the india media is completely casteist and oblivious to every issue other than the ones affecting the urban upper and middle class.
as a part of a college assignment, which is to create an advertising campaign a bunch of girls of a mass communiction students have an honest intention to start a campaign against the indiffernce of the indian media.
it is going to be a call for action for the youth against the indian media. do we really need the rubbish like ” does your trainer turn you on?” or ” ash and abhi hot or wot?” kind of articles to appear when someone is desparately trying to make his voice heard, trying to call out for help and justice aginst the atrocities commmited aginst him/her.
the indian youth will forever and always be ignorant and unaffected if the media doesnt step up and act like a “true watchdog” of the nation.
we are the youth, we are the educated and the privileged ones and we do have the power to make a change. lets not give it up and promote an glam stories or cover an ash or abhi. it just doestn’t seem right when you know that someone else is out there sacrificing his life and doenst have any space for his cry to be heard.
any suggestions as to what we can do for this campaign are welcome.

  21. The Print and Electronic Media are in the hands of big corporates/business houses and they are aligned to one political party or the other and follow their political agenda. These newspaper barons are not interested to fight for social justice and for the cause of common man.The blog created in WordPress.com titled “How to uphold dignity and honour to judiciary in India” has not been picked up by any newspaper or t.v channel in India to highlight the miscarriage of justice in Supreme Court of India. In a similar case of Zahira Sheik of Best Bakery Carnage of Vadodara, Gujarat, the Apex Court has convicted the poor muslim girl who has been simply misled by imposing hefty penalty and one year imprisonment whereas in the present case referred to above, the offender has been left scot-free (SLP(c))cc No.194/07 on 25-01-07 in Court No.6 (Apex Court)despite the fact the offender has filed sworn affidavits in Andhra Pradesh and Delhi High Courts in the same matter and obtained stays simultaneously to derail the process of justice. It is apparent that the judiciary follows double standards in our country.

    Another Khairlanji in the offing???????

This is a case of Mrs Sunita (name changed to protect identity) who is an Agril. Assistant working under Taluka Agriculture Officer (Class-2) of Katol Taluka of Nagpur distt. On November 11, 2009, Subdivisional Agriculture Officer (Class-1) Mr. Narendra Govindrao Wakde of Katol went to her home without any intimation, in her husband’s absence. He had first made enquiries about her house and family members from other office employees. Sunita was surprised to see him at her home. Knowing that Mr N.G.Wakde is boss of her boss, she offered him tea and breakfast (which she was preparing at that time). He had breakfast & suddenly caught her hand. He caught her hand while her 3 yr old daughter was with her. When she tried to get away he suddenly held her head tight & kissed her, touched her breasts and demanded her to have sex. Sunita’s daughter saw all of this. Still Mr Wakde did not have any shame. At first she tried to break herself free from his grip by using her own physical force. When she failed, she tried to convince him that whatever he was doing is not right. But he did not budge. She somehow freed herself and ran to kitchen, where he followed and again caught her and touched her thighs. At that point, a boy in her neighbourhood came to her house. Seeing that boy, mr wakde released her hand instantly. Had the boy not come in her house, mr wakde would have raped her in her daughter’s presence. Later in the evening Mr Wakde called Sunita on her mobile for 10-12 times. She showed the calls next day to her husband who had returned from tour.

The incidence was reported to her superiors i.e. Joint Director of Agriculture, Nagpur and Commissioner of Agriculture, nagpur. It took them nearly 3 months to start the enquiry. Seeing their un-willingness to start enquiry, she filed FIR at Katol Police station on 17th June 2010. Since, it was late i.e. nearly 6 months after the incidence, the Police inspector was refusing to accept FIR. He accepted it only when IG Mr. Surendra Kumar (09403820119) & Commissioner of Police was contacted. The police inspector has done Panchnama of place where the incidence occurred. And talked to witness neighborhood boy. Yet, no action has been taken by the PI (Mr Kishor Gawai-07112-222023) Again Mr N.G.Wakde is very close to Minister of Agriculture Mr Balasaheb Thorat and congress worker Nana Gawande. Mr wakde is somwhow related to Mr C.H Wakde, SP(Nagpur Rural) (Mobile no. 09422082502). All of them are helping Mr N.G. Wakde.

In such a situation, it is difficult for Sunita to get justice and punish the culprit. Police Inspector himself is helping Mr Wakde by not arresting him even after 13 days of filing FIR. We have learned from un-official sources that Mr Wakde has given the PI considerable amount to stop him from arresting him. We have got help from Sr. Journalist Umesh Chaube, Mrs.Savita Pande (09371346169), Miss Ashu Saxena, Mr Gyaneshwar Gurav who runs NGO Vidarbha Vikas Kranti Sangathan. They are helping us by organising DHARNA etc. Sr. offiecrs are helping Sunita because Mr Wakde had used some obscene words about one of them during one workshop. When she had tried to make complaint but our sr. officials advised that Mr Wakde is our “asset” (as he is close to the minister & can manage everything), they will not take any action against him. That is why we feel & fear that Mr.Wakde will manage the case by offering lot of money to sr. officials and the police. Please help Sunita to get the justice. Otherwise the case file will be hidden somewhere and Mr Wakde will be again free to do whatever he wants.

  29. don’t worry about this media dominated by upper caste, By shouting out like we are wasting our energy, The ones who should be listening are not listening.
