Caste tastes clashes in Govt Law College

In a broad day light on Monday, inside the campus of the Government Law College, Coimbatore, four Dalit students were brutally assaulted by non-dalit students’ armed gang. The gang damaged three motorcycles and managed to escape before the police reached there.  

Non-Dalit students with some hired goons attacked on Dalit students assaulting them with deadly weapons. The four injured students which have been identified as Murugesan, Anandaraj, Azhaguraja and Kalaiyarasan were admitted at Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH).

 “Students from Thevar, Gounder and Vanniyar communities have formed a non-dalit student’s forum inside the college campus and political parties are supporting them. The dalit students are unable to roam freely outside the college campus,” said a student to management.

“There was previous enmity between students who belonged to different communities. We have deployed police personnel and the culprits will be arrested soon,” said DSP Thangadurai.

Caste taste trigger clashes as the students of BABL, Sargunam, Dalit student has been teased by Nishant and his friends. Both fall out over the tease matter on Friday. Somehow seniors managed to patch the things on September 27 among them. But on Saturday six students, Nishant and his friends, attacked Sargunam and his friends with an iron rod inside the campus. Meantime, twelve students were attacked on Nishant and his friend from Sargunam’ side.

Vadavalli police has registered complaint against 18 students from both sides. M Sudhir, principal, Government Law College said they will suspend the students who indulged in the attack.
