A letter: Caste virus in IIT Kanpur

Subject: Caste based discrimination with SC/ST students in IIT Kanpur

Respected Sir/ Madam,

Indian Institute of Technologies (IITs) are premier institutions of our country that were built by the Union Government to develop best engineering and technological brains for our country. For this to happen, IITs are given large autonomy so that they could function quite independently keeping with the best interest for our country.

However, we are greatly concerned as students of IIT Kanpur, that this particular IIT is flouting all the rules and regulations and practicing discriminatory behaviour in the name of institutional autonomy. Rather than becoming an Institute that promotes equal opportunity to all Indian citizens, as envisaged by Indian constitution, IIT Kanpur is reating hurdles for students from the marginalized sections of the society. For example, whether there is any Scheduled Caste or
Scheduled Tribe faculty member in IIT Kanpur is unknown to us. Since IIT Kanpur is an autonomous body, administrators have no fear of any enquiry. Thus all the rules and regulations are overlooked for their personal interest and dictatorship. Even the decisions of the Senate, Board of Governors, Finance Committee, Building and Works Committee, are not made public.

(http://www.iitk.ac.in/infocell/iitk/newhtml/rightinformationact.htm). In last few years the ranking of this elite institute has dropped down to 146 rank (Dainik jagran, Kanpur, 5th Jan., 2010). Who should be terminated? The Administrators/ Professors or the Students? Apart from this glaring example, we, the Dalit students of IIT Kanpur, want to mentions some facts to draw your kind attention.

1. Every year the reserve category students (SC/ST) qualify the JEE/JAM/GATE competition exam and enter this elite institute. We come here with lots of expectations and hope, but as we step here ,our hopes get shattered as we face caste based discrimination in terms of academics and other activities. We are being discouraged to continue our studies and are regularly failed intentionally in various subjects to ruin our careers in the name of poor academics or CPI.Consequently they put us in AP, AP*, DP, DPC, Warning and terminations and many leave the degree/program when they cannot sustain in these conditions. These students are not only from the first year but even the final years too.

2. When we are facing some doubts or trouble in our academics and try to approach the concerned instructor, they just don’t pay heed to our problems. They try to neglect us by saying that “search it on google or any other website”. Though
instructors encourage us to ask questions but when we try to ask our doubts they make fun of us and they reply something like “don’t ask me such simple and silly questions”.

3. I.I.T. Kanpur authority have informed media (as per ‘HINDUSTAN’ dated 6th of January 2010 page no.3 column first) that 111 students were terminated but after mercy appeal 26 students have not been reinstated because of disciplinary and academic grounds. Sir we would like to inform you that we are not involved in any undisciplined activities and also we are not under any “disciplinary probation”. However Hindustan newspaper reports (8th January, 2010, Kanpur) that there are 38 students who have been terminated and this number may increase. The cause of terminations are poor CPI and health problem. This is in contradiction to what the authorities have informed earlier (‘HINDUSTAN’ dated 6th January,2010).

4. The suicide cases in IITK have increased in last few years. We are informed about the suicides and fact finding committees through e-mails that they will enquire for the cause of such incidents. The committee consists of the Institute professors itself. The report of the fact finding committee is never made open even to the IIT community. Here are some of the suicide cases that we would like to bring to your notice.

A) On Saturday, Jan 3 ,2009 G Suman, a post-graduate IIT student allegedly committed suicide in Kanpur by hanging himself in hostel room. (SC student).
B) Prashant Kureel, 19 April, 2008 a first year student of electrical engineering commit suicide in his hostel room ,he was not a weaker student as he is one of the top student in IIT-JEE exam. (SC student).
C) Ms. Toya , May 2008.
D) Mr. Durgesh Vikram who was under psychological treatment, attempted suicide at Kanpur Central Railway track.
E) A female student attempt suicide by hanging herself in her room. His life was saved when someone who saw her from window.
F) A student committed suicide by drinking mortein. He was referred from Health Centre to Regency hospital and his life was saved.

Similarly there has been numerous suicide attempts whose cases can be enquired through students.

5. The different levels of meetings, especially Senate, where the termination cases are discussed we do not know whether there are SC/ST representatives in both student and faculty members. When we approach to the concerned member of the Senate they just ask caste and category and even after full assurance to support most of them decline to
keep their promises later or in Senate meeting. a.) The counseling service (CS) does not seem to be supportive. Even though IIT Kanpur spends lots of money on it they never ask the students about their difficulties throughout the semester . But when we get terminated they just call the students in lecture room and sympathize us that they are with us. Whenever we consult them, they always try to neglect us in lieu of poor academics and behave as if we have got depression feelings. The previous CS head Prof. Gautom Deo and current CS head Prof. A.K.Gosh and Dean of Student’s Affairs –Prof. Partha Chakraborty, are chain smokers. Thus, when we tell our problems, they keep on smoking cigarettes and at last they scold us for poor performance. They don’t arrange for extra classes, training, and skills , as they are
prejudiced that we SC/ST are poor in studies and have come through quota.

6. Here In IIT-Kanpur we have a grade system viz.A=10 ,B=8 ,C=6, D=4 and F=2 . But in other IIT’s the grading system is A=10, A-=9, B=8, B-=7, C=6, C-=5, D=4, and F=2 .

e.g. If someone gets 60 marks in a particular course he is getting C grade but if he get 59 then according to IIT-Kanpur grading he is awarded D grade. So there is big gap between C=6 and D=4.But according to other IIT’s it is not so much difference between C and D.

7.Our exam answer sheets have our name and roll numbers on them. Thus, It is easy to know a person’s category from his/her answer sheet and hence they can grade us with lower marks than what we deserve. As a result due to biased grading system most of our students either drop out or are compelled to complete the course in more than the allotted ime period. The administration terminates students twice in a year (two semesters). The number of such terminated students increase every semester .Consequently very few SC and ST students complete the course within the stipulated time. (After termination they don’t reinstate easily and if reinstated the student degree gets extended thus PSU sector don’t give jobs to the extended degree holder students).

8. There are few SC and ST students who managed to survive in this biased system and are in the final year of their courses and about to complete their degrees but now they have been terminated. Now they have nothing in their hand and have even lost their valuable time.

9. When the first appeal from terminated students for reinstatement is turn-down by the concerned authorities, the reasons for such step of turning down the appeal are never clearly given out. Even before his/her appeal, the terminated student is always made to feel low and insecure by telling that he/she has almost no chance to study in IIT.

The Institute administration says that one can re-appeal any number of times. With this hope, we wait for 6 months for the next senate meeting but again we come to know that our re-appeal has been turned down without any concrete easons. As a result our valuable time and hope is lost.

[For e.g. A 2003 batch SC student has been re-appealing for the last 18months but every time his appeal is turned down by the Senate under the Chairmanship of the Director without any concrete reason ].The concerned authorities only ask us to re-appeal everytime our appeal is turned down.

10. SC/ST cell: Due to all these above problems and harassment, we look for the SC/ST cell in IIT Kanpur but we find no information about it either on the IIT-Kanpur website or anywhere else within the campus so that we can express our grievances .

11. The mandate of Article 46 of the Constitution of India says: “It is not in dispute that SC and ST are a separate class by themselves, and the creamy layer principle is not applicable to them. Article 46 of the Constitution enjoins upon the state to promote with special care the educational and economic interests of the weaker sections and protect them from social injustice and all forms of exploitation. These socially and economically backward categories are to be taken care of at every stage even in the specialised institutions like IITs.” It’s an utter disappointment that in such an elite institution with highly educated community, they haven’t realized the real relevance of reservations even after 60 years of Independence.

12. Despite the recent supreme court ruling (dated 12th August, 2009) on terminating SC/ST students and showing more encouragement towards SC/ST students the IIT Kanpur administration has continued to be indifferent to the woes of SC/ST students. The administration continued to be a deaf ear and continued to terminate SC/ST students trivially. They have not shown any encouragement like always and continue to terminate SC/ST students even on small pretexts.
In such context,we appeal to the concerned authorities in the ministry to take immediate action in IIT Kanpur to save the life and career of SC and ST students otherwise we would be of nowhere inspite of spending our precious time in IIT Kanpur.

Sir, If this continues the day is not far that the “IIT Kanpur” would be better known as “ITI Kanpur.” Looking to it please take immediate action in this matter as our life and career are most affected due to this termination and the social justice can be done as early as possible.

Hoping for a positive response.

Yours Sincerely
SC/ST Students
IIT-Kanpur

Are you a student in the first year ?

  2. 2 Akshay

Did you go through the prep course? If yes, then do you think it should have been longer (2-3 years?) to better prepare you for the BTech? If no, then maybe you should have!

  3. 3 Ravi

How does it matter if the person is in 1st year or 4th year, or he has undergone prep course or not? This is simple question of love of students and professors for others and vision for equal society! Beutiful India can not be built on faulty vision of engineers who take out 1/2 of the Urban parents Income and Energy for JEE Tution classes without understanding social realities and responsibilties!

  4. 4 Priyanka

    I myself am an IITian.
Some queries come up to my mind after reading your appeal :
Are you interested in the Prof. Qualification and ability to teach or in his category-GEN/SC/ST/OBC ??? Is the grading different for GEN class students ???
As rightly pointed out by you, IITs are the premium institutes, which should only and only promote talent , be it from any class. But due to the reservations, though obtaining higher academic marks, GEN class students do not get an entry.
If you really think that there should not be any differentiation based on category(which I dont think is??), firstly the reservation system should be withdrawn.

IIT’s are surelly a premiar institute who produce talented “Learned Labour” for USA and other European countries. Its very easy to comment on “Researvation System” but while commenting you should also consider the “Caste System and its origin” in India. Scientifically no race or community is inferior or superior to each other but the “Brahminism” is the main root of all the inequality in this country. Why still there is only people from “Higher Caste” have access to good and higher education? Why there is the existance of “Lobby System” in higher education and no opposition to that by these “Manuwadi’s”. GET WELL SOON DEAR “MANUWADI’S” AND FIRST SHED YOUR SURNAME IF YOU REALLY ARE AGAINST INEQUALITY.

  5. 6 Kumarpushp

Give dalits a seprate county where they can have their own IIT ,dalits donot want to stay with hindus any more .hindus are barbaric like their god rama.

  6. 7 vikas IIT

Are the prof. really talented ? if yes how many of them have even been nominated for NOBEL or any other prestigious award .What discoveries have they made which can be used by a common man? Not even a single needle.let me tell you 60 years have passed since independence and since then only reservation policy was implemented but for your kind information let me tell you that uptil now there has been only 3 professors belonging to the Scheduled castes.I think this is enough to open your eyes regarding the talent of the General Class Professors & students.one more thing if professors are really talented then they should make a 4-5 pointer to raise its level to 8-9 point , rather than making a 10 pointer as it is. Not only this a SC/ST/OBC has been a topper in his/her 10+2 exams but suddenly what happens that he/she becomes incapable(poor grades and marks) when it comes to higher education and even has to face terminations and it becomes a challenge for him/her to even complete the course.
Regarding reservation you should ashamed of yourself that even after studying in such an elite institute you don’t(never tried to) know the real meaning of reservation . You know RESERVATION means REPRESENTATION.
Reading all this I think you should be ashamed to be a part of IIT(INTERNATIONAL INSTITUTE OF TERRORISM

  7. 8 Priyanka

If Dalit needs to be given a separate IIT – it should be better named as DIT-Dalit Institute of Technology- just give it a thought !!!
I am not at all ashamed of myself because, I support talent not the issue of caste. If a person is talented (be it Gen/ SC/ST/OBC) he should be given the oppurtunities.
Anyways you seem to be a bit confused-is IIT according to you an elite organisation or a terrorism center??
Being a student I support our statement that Prof should enhance the quality of students – 6 pointer to 10 pointer, they have not done great innovations, but analysing every point on this categorical basis is not what I feel.

I am a dalit and i think, at least toying with the keyboard while replying to ur comments by me is itself a signature of what the reservation has done to uplift the dalits who were earlier compelled to think of themselves as inferior. As far as talent and creativity is concerned, dalits were the first or rather say the only ones who engaged themselves in creativity in the form of shoe makers, utensils makers, barbers etc. While the tribal communities taught human beings essential skills, from distinguishing between edible and poisionous roots to designing hunting instruments, the barbers are the earliest protectors of health, and the leather workers the first scientists whose work is a fascinating process of converting something into something. As far as talent is concerned, u all know these particular section has been deprived of nutritious food or even full meal for ages and which is essential for the development of brain. But the progress that we have shown in just 60 yrs is tremendous and expect a exponential growth unless hindered by the people having ill thoughts like u. I just can’t understand how even at the present level of mental growth and education that u have got , u r speaking unmaturedly. Let me sight some example: In IAS-2008, S SASIKANTH SENTHIL(SC) got the highest marks in written exam i. e. mains and a overall ranking of 9 which is itself an achievement. Also in IES-2006, a SC candidate got 1st rank in electrical engg. This is not the end there r many more giving stiff competition to the general category students which was unimaginable few decades back. All this is due to reservation. And for ur kind information reservation to SC/STs is not based on economic grounds but on giving them due representation in the functioning of that quadral society which was created by manu. Even in hinduism the caste system is not mentioned . Infact according to Dayanand Saraswati and many religious leaders the writings of only Vedas and Upanishads r true while those of puranas r filled with illusionary and false statements (and stories) which were created by the so called Brahmins and upper castes for their benefits. During these period only, even the male tried to make female feel inferior by practising ill traditions like SATI Pratha, Parda for females, no remarraige for widows and separate actually miserable life for the widows, child marraige etc…… all these were highly practised in upper caste families untill social reformers in the likes of Raja Rammohan Roy , Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar, Ranade etc… came. Hinduism was given a bad name due to Brahmins. If reservation would not have been there then India might have witnessed a civil war and collapse of hinduism. Even reservation is not the solution, the solution is to develop the educational infrastructure right from the primary section with all inclusive approach. The share of govt. jobs in total employment of the country is merely 2% and still we fight with each other for reservation. The need is to force the govt. to increase the no of govt. jobs and as far as education is concerned more govt. instituitions need to be built rather than just focussing on this micro problems. In a democratic set up, the govt. will always try to play with the sentiments of the people to park the votes with them but we being the responsible and intellectual persons of the society need to understand the matrix and diagonalize it. JAI HIND.

The community in the campus needs to overcome the typical caste mindset & educate themselves on the reservation policy. They should acknowledge & understand the very social implications. Like fast developments in the IT sector the faculty should get innovative addressing the issues facing the SC/ST community with professional sociologists & psychologists. These people have been marginalized for centuries – in other words hundreds of millions of lives have been destroyed. To be intolerant & dismissive is a hall mark of mediocrity; to bring into play intelligence, skills to reach out to them require a degree of professionalism that’s tragically missing in spite of technology transfer & exchange of culture between the east & the west. The infrastructure in the west designed to reach & help the socially disadvantaged amply demonstrates such professionalism.
Snobbery is a by product of capitalist society. The students who excels in academics can be excused from safely practicing this but not the faculty members & the administrative staff, who should show greater responsibility towards the social & hence the academic problems in the campus.

      • 11 ab

Kicking out a student is not a part of the solution but the problem itself. SC/STs form a significant % of the population. Reservation as an affirmative action does not account for the large masses that silently perish in the remote rural fringes. So the percent that is accounted for through reservation should not be ignored; everything needs to be done to assimilate them into mainstream.
In the West there’re many famous examples of people succeeding without a formal qualifications – well, they are exceptions; But in India the social value system is different. A qualification is a mandatory requirement to succeed.
Despite social discrimination & strong prejudice against this community still everyone is good at something. A degree under the belt will provide security blanket to harness the talent inherent in all individuals in various fields.
So the practice of expulsion has to be abolished altogether. Apart from the caste system the social life is rife with corruption. Expulsion will render the students to a state of helplessness, comparable to rendition, if you like.
I had exposure to IIT-K culture for a few years. So I know what I’m talking about.
India practices hypocrisy on different fronts. As an example, there’re millions of prostitutes who practice their trade illegally – which should be legalized . Such brutal & ruthless exploitation of the millions is simply senseless.
Many from SC/ST community are trafficked including women & children.
In India despite lofty claims of 9% rate of growth in economy beneficiaries are almost invisible. Look at the Maoist insurgency. The poor & deprived are being sacrificed in the name a communist movement hijacked by some trigger happy Indian cowboys. India is a superpower. Where is the demonstration of competency in dealing with an internal threat? Violence against the Indian students in Australia is racism. Caste is another name for racism in India.
So there needs to be fundamental changes in the attitude of people in relation to the caste factor – that’s a step towards final resolution looking at the big picture.

      • 12 ab

It’s an opportunity for me to elaborate on the question of violence against the Indian students in Australia. Many go there to fast track to the Permanent Resident status. To be a student there is a very expensive business. There are shady migration agents, questionable Institutes of learning & large sums of money involved. All effort invested to gain PR status.

Similarly the SC/ST community is also in quest for a better life through a degree. Why not give it to them? Education begins at home. In terms academic excellence if the media reports are any indication to go by, students in Australia & the SC/ST community in the IIT-K campus are very much on comparable merit. Many are NOT good students at all but hail from financially sound background

      • 13 Indian

        Well said!

    • 14 Rahul

Birahmin Institute of Technology has to change instead of Indian Institute of Technology because Birahmin are majority in the faculty and staff group in IIT system that’s why they are uplifting their caste-students even in poor in study. In India temples like thirupathi, poosaris (priests) are Biramins and no other Hindu persons. This is also a kind of reservation.

    • 15 Rahul

Birahmins are rich without working. How? Workers (agriculture, building, and others) are always in poverty. There are lot of mistakes in administration of our country (Indian Government).

    • 16 Rahul

Actually Birahmins came to India from central Asia for begging. They only created the caste system in India after Buddha. Who termed as Dalit. Why are Dalits in poverty? Why are Dalits not accepted like other other Hind upper community people? because Dalits did not accept caste system at the time of Budda and they followed Buddha’s words i.e.good discipline, good thinking, it should not accept superstitions (Puranas). This is fact behind Dalit.

racism is in root of earth. some people are exremely black some are extremely white, some have small eye (chinese) some have large hair at their body some race have very little hair. so racism is phenomena of nature. in all races aryan are known as best.
you said that brahman are came from middle asia (as statedby max muller”aryan main residential place was middle asia) it supports that brahmins are arya best clan on this world.this implies that you also support brahmins as best clan.according to max muller aryan (brahmin, kshatriya, vaishya) beat indian original resident and treat them as lower caste.so you are loser since then. then you have no right to claim that we are from outside of india. who are you to say brahmins are from outside of india ? on the basis of only theory of maxmuller that is not a prooved theory and also there is much contradiction in that theory, you are claiming that they are outsider. i think phelosophies given by manu was absolutely right. he have done these for the welfare of society.

I think IIT students should take some classes of “Social Sciences” because they think that this world is going because of there talent only. LOL. Till date India has not developed its own “Computer”. Thanks to our talented IIT’ians. They are true “Frogs in a Well” who are busy in appriciating themselves. You are good for nothing. Just go and Serve USA and be proud of your talent.

The first statement clearly reveals your state of mind towards DALIT education. Why there should be a different Institutes for Dalits. Are IITs meant for only GN category students?I don’t know whether you feel it or not but it is true that your caste determines your talent . Have you ever thought why there is not a single person of the reserved category in BOLLYWOOD. There has been not a single dalit person ever who has become the PM of India. The only dalit CM holds the post that too after more than 50 yrs. of independence. Why not Babu Jagjiwan Ram ji made the PM in mid 70’s. Particularly in IITK reservation stated in 1973 ,14 yrs after its establishment since then reserve category students are entering this Institute. But I am dead sure that only a handful of them could have completed their course and that too with only the graduating CPI. If reservation started at that time termination might also have started at that time.Have the so called well qualified profs. ever thought as who the terminated students are & what is their CATEGORY. I am very much sure that most of the terminated students belonged to the reserve category. If they have taken it seriously then what extra effort have they taken to boost their moral so that the student who joins the Institute may not have to suffer any further. If they really had taken steps to help the RESERVE category students then the situation would not have been so drastic.I think this is intentional not to help the reserve category students and keep them illiterate ,ignored and rule the nation.

Demolished the hindu ,hindi ,hindustan by joining the Pakistan because barbaric people need barbaric treatment.

pakistan me koi reservation nahi mil payega tum logo ko.waise bhi tum logo ki aukat nahi hai ki hinduism ko khatm kar sako. because you are loser(beaten by aryans or simlply by us).pakistan me jakar tun phir se apni adiwasi wali jindagi jina suru kar dogo ham jante hai tumhari aukat.

  10. 23 Vivek

I am a Fifth year Btech-Mtech Dual degree student in IIT Kanpur. I entered the IIT system through the narrow window of preparatory course which is surely a result of reservation!
With my five years of experience in IIT Kanpur I have tried to explain some of the statements taken directly from the letter which are extremely ridiculous, baseless & one-sided.

    1. “whether there is any Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe faculty member in IIT Kanpur is unknown to us.”
In IITK most of the faculty have got their PhD & post-doc from top universities abroad or from IITs. They have had excellent performance throughout their academic career. Some of them are gold medalists & 10 pointers.
While among SC/ST students even today we dont decide to go for PhD, so think about 20 years back! Everyone wants to quit studies very quickly & run for a job. Honestly there are very few SC/ST who have a decent PhD and even lesser are fit to be a professors in IIT. How can you expect a professor in IITK who doesn’t have PhD from a respectable institution?

    2. “We are being discouraged to continue our studies and are regularly failed intentionally in various subjects to ruin our careers in the name of CPI.”
There are 20% SC/ST students in all IITs. If there was caste based discouraging & intentionally failing practices in IIT then everybody like me would have been wiped out. Why did they tolerate my for 5 years?
ALL THE GRADING IS PERFORMANCE BASED.
I can assure all of you that I ( & all my SC/ST friends & acquaintances here) have never faced ANY kind of discrimination. All the grades on my transcript are the ones which I (same for any student of any caste in IITK) ACTUALLY deserve. Getting a good grade in IITK is difficult but that is for EVERYONE. There are some professors who are tough graders and expect a lot, but again they are tough for everyone!

3.”they put us in AP, AP*, DP, DPC, Warning and terminations and many leave the degree/program when they cannot sustain in these conditions. These students are not only from the first year but even the final years too”
Urvashi Shrivastava, a GN category student from civil engineering who was terminated in 6th year. Dheeraj Rana(SC chemical engineer) was terminated in 5th year. I personally know both of them and they were performing very bad in academics because they were highly irresponsible. They didn’t attend classes, didn’t pay their bills, didn’t make good friends, smoked & drunk heavily. They were very similar cases from two different castes with very similar results!

4.“search it on google or any other website”
Professors here always complain that students don’t ask problems & a few don’t even see their face except in the examination halls! They are dying to meet & discuss the problems of students. No professor would ever give such a lame answer.

5.“A student committed suicide by drinking mortein. He was referred from Health Centre to Regency hospital and his life was saved”
This student was my wing-mate in 2nd yr. He had no friends in the hostel & often had a fight with others. He broke the room’s tube light when he quarreled with his room-mate. But, he was quite good in studies & got job (in IOCL, 7lakhs!) within a week during the placements. THAT’S IIT KANPUR 🙂
Till now he hasn’t told anybody about the reason why he attempted suicide & says even he doesn’t know why he did it. In 3rd yr he used to be tense because he was not sure if he will get a job while he desperately needed it.

6.”The counseling service (CS) does not seem to be supportive.”
I agree in this point to some extent. Mostly the student guides in CS have high CPI and are busy with their own academics. A 9pointer is unable to understand the root problems of a 4pointer. But still some student guides are very helpful. Certainly the CS system has to grow & improve.

7.”The previous CS head Prof. Gautom Deo and current CS head Prof. A.K.Gosh and Dean of Student’s Affairs –Prof. Partha Chakraborty, are chain smokers.”
Their smoking does not at all effect the ACADEMIC HEALTH of the students!

    8. “If someone gets 60 marks in a particular course he is getting C grade but if he get 59 then according to IIT-Kanpur grading grading he is awarded D grade.”
Mostly we get B at 60% & I am sure nobody must have got D at 59%.
I got B grade at 56% in fluid mechanics & C grade in 61% Enviro! Everything is based on relative grading. If you are far below the rest of the class performance then you get D or F.

9.”we look for the SC/ST cell in IIT Kanpur”
This will surely corner all the category students from the rest of the IIT society. It will be suicidal for a student to join such a cell. In IITK the key to success is to have a lot of friends of all shades. Some students are good at making notes while others are good at understanding or some in problem solving. Some remember everything what professors says! Group study leads to astonishingly high results with lesser efforts.
Why Pakistan is in such a bad condition? because few Muslims demanded a separate CELL in the geography of Indian subcontinent. While those Muslims who chose to adhere to the unity in diversity of India are relatively more prosperous! They chose their nation over their religion. In IITK we should choose academics & the institute over our caste.

In 2010 the last SC candidate passing in IIT JEE through SC scored 84 while similar GN student got 190. Similarily in 2009 the numbers were 69 & 178. The first rank of SC category scored 326 & of GN scored 424. So at all stages we have the difference of about 100 marks. How good or bad reservation is an altogether different debate. But once you are inside IIT then hard work & group studies is the key. Obviously there will be a deterioration in performance level of those students who enter IIT with lesser marks but do not put on required efforts. With this TRUTH & no prejudice, the category students should work hard & surely they will taste success as any other IIT student.

PLEASE DO NOT SEND SUCH BIASED LETTERS TO THE GOVERNMENT OF INDIA AS IT HAS MUCH TASKS TO ACCOMPLISH THAN DEALING WITH YOUR ANXIETY & FRUSTRATION.

I haven’t seen more lies in my lifetime. This isn’t IITK of 20 years back or present rural India that SC/ST students are discriminated against by the faculty or the students. They have grown up and so should you! The Government and dirty Indian politics is responsible for the stupid reservation system because of which you are even there in the institute. When General Category students don’t get a seat in IITK after scoring 190 marks in JEE, I’ve seen SC/ST’s getting one for about 100. And you get the Prep course for even less. When students giving such low performance enter the institute which sees you purely on the basis of your performance, it is but natural that they can’t compete with the rest of the crowd. Thus the high levels of frustration and high rates of suicide in SC/ST’s. The reservation system in the premier institutes of the country is heavily frustrating to General category students AND students of other castes. Yes, and no one discriminates against SC/ST students but you still want IIT’s to give you caste benefit within the institute even when you’ve gotten enough to get you inside of it? This isn’t some kind of an empire and you aren’t a royal group that the top engineering institutes of the country will give you a seat to you despite your embarrassing performance and keep you inside, again despite your embarrassing performance! This is reality, there is no discrimination within IITK, because of which students with bad performance are being terminated, many of which happen to be of the SC/ST community, purely because of a biased admission system. Deal with it!

    dear writer of the mail,
I think I know who you are… anyways I am actually shocked after reading your mail and have been wondering for the last couple of minutes ….how on earth did u get into iit or how did u even clear the pg admission interview (I told you , I know u)… even with reservation , with this level of IQ I think you should have scored 10 -20 percentile. Anyways pardon me if I am wrong . Well lets get into some facts, what does reservation mean? ….”a free pass thru any gate under the republic of India….an assurance that you will get all the benefits within India doesnt matter whether your family is in a famine struck tribal village of Orissa or dines in the costliest hotels in the country”…… what does reservation mean and what was its sole purpose….. I myself being from North East realised over the years if 60 years ago some man thought of reservation for certain classes of the society , it was only to uplift the divided and prejudices-struck society to a society where people are not judged by their talent and not their caste or creed. Where man earns his dignity, earns his status and doesnt inherit it. And obviously, just like any doctor will administer medicine to his patient … the application of “reservation” had to be attritioned down the years as the society grows the level of difference reduces and so the level of medicine administered has to be reduced. But in our case we started enjoying this as free pass to a royal buffet and our leaders used them as a ticket to vote banks….. after 50 years new type of reserervation was introduced. As a result we are again going back to the same state, a society divided by the “ownership” of a certificate or not. Now Lets look into this in a different dimension, take for example your case, you think there is a discrimination based on caste within the IITK, can you site one incident where this was made clear by the attitude of the teacher or the administration , like had there been any declaration that sc/st will have different grading or different classes to sit in, diff set of assignments to be solved, I am a pg student of iitk and have also assissted student as a TA..I never found any such things in any aspect… then on what basis do you claim so? …mmm let me guess… you expect the sc/st certificate party to continue even within the campus… you hail IITK as premier institute and the same time u expect it to abase its standards by granting degrees to fellows like you just because you have a DAMN certificate. I cant totally deny the fact that there are still some places in the country where there are no proper care of education, health and basic amenities and that is the reason we still have the reservations in our country. But we can consider this for a student coming from a backward place and qualifying IIT JEE because thats his first step towards basic education qualification, towards upliftment but why should we consider such things for people who have enjoyed all the facilities all through their lives or have acquired bachelor or masters degrees. When the entire country is irritated by this kind of discrimination, you come up with a ” new issue” that there are dalits exploited and forced to commit suicide in IITK . Once you are within the IITK it means u have qualified yourself for the best level of education wihtin the country, now its upto you to cash on it. If you argue that how can a backward guy compete with the other elite students well then I must say the student must have thought about that before applying for IITK, there are NITS there are other universities. And this is the reason we should not pull down the standards of admission criteria, we do that for a section of people, they get in blinded by the glory of brand name IIT, and then they find tough even to survive; result: depression, suicide. while you are growing you should take up the pace that u can sustain not something u cant even think of. And there is no shame in it, I myself did my btech from an NIT and then am pursuing my masters in iitk. I should take up the job that I can do well not anything that looks great.
I am amazed by the fact that instead of looking into these obvious reasons u are expecting the institute to lower its standards and at the same time u are also pointing out that the ranking of the institute has gone down. You expect the institute to ease its policies for some (SC/ST) and again you are also talking about “caste virus ” in the institute. I think the delegates under the cabinet of Mr. Nehru were smart enough to foresee such a situation and thats why they made such institutes sole autonomous. Thankfully the institute is free from the rule of the state govt…… this note is apolitical though 🙂

    Corruption in IIT Kanpur

Everybody will be thinking that how and why I am against the administration of I.I.T. Kanpur what I have personal benefits. You are thinking, I say no? But this is not true. I wish to clearly state here that I am fully against the corruption as well as Administration till rectification in the entire process and moreover if anybody will be gainer, only & only I will. I am watching the future of our country in the students of I.I.T.K. Although I passed my childhood as well as young hood because I am aged about 60 years.
I have seen so many circumstances/incidents with my naked I in current passed in my life and became helpless with tears in eyes. The Administration in corruption still gradually day by day and the entire I.I.Tians/ Employee are watching and understand the whole process on deaf and dump.
In last Eight years, I have seen which I have not seen before? I found scene the fear able faces of either Prof. or students a unforeseen lines of their faces always, which drastically hamper their working style, who is not knowledgeable but backbone of future of our country. The knowledgeable professor/ students/administrator are forcibly set-aside. A person not know the administration rules, conducts etc. simply by a upper division clerk run the entire I.I.T.K. in the shadow of our Hon’ble Director. I became stund and curious to knowing the original picture behind the original facts. The actual facts which was run in a very planned way was simply ‘corruption’ and hidden the other unparliamently way by our Hon’ble C.P. Singh ‘Assistant Registrar’ (Legal Cell) of mercy hand of our Hon’ble Director Sri S.G. Dhandhe.
During the course of investigation I found the misuse of National money/property in Hitlersahi way (andaj) more than 500 crores in past Eight years. Even though they do not hesitate to violate the prescribed process, norms of Administration, for exemplary account one, which is completely under control by Govt. of India. Accounts two and Projects Accounts is not highlighted and in future the bundles of scandals will be opened.
In this context, I have served a legal notice to Chief Secretary, M.H.R.D. which is annexed herewith, in which the entire stories can easily readout.
Importantly, I pin down with tear eyes that the brilliant students belongs to middle class family are maximum harass and mentally and financially way to inspire and put the position for suicide in last three years.
As example, no students come forward and say/speak a word in any way, otherwise and humiliation and hitlersahi is behind the whole career will be spoiled by the Administration.
A media lab is one of the major projects of I.I.T.K., a senior technician (Telephone) appointed as In-charge Media spoke person/contact person inspite of so much so talents in this fields are available there but to my surprise how and why the qualitative person aforesaid appointed named Sri Ravi Shukla Ji. Here most importantly pointed out the reason behind ‘National Money’ as flow like water. Student can not meet with media during the course of suicide.
To my great surprise the Warden’s are residing 3 to 5 Km. from the Hostel. It is necessary to highlighted that after suicide by the student I.I.T.K. firstly investigated and assure that they are completely safe and thereafter they reported to police to do the rest formalities.
Recently a case of suicide was a student, who allegate the whole Administration of I.I.T.K., in this connection a committee form by Administration in their own safeguard.

IIT Kanpur-Selection Committee conducted an interview for the post of Deputy Registrars (1SC, 1UR) on 21 November 2011 (Monday). Many SC candidates, who came from various highly reputed institutions with suitable educations and experiences, appeared in the interview for post of Deputy Registrar reserved for SC on 21/11/2011. SC (Scheduled Caste) seat was not filled but UR (Unreserved Category) filled. The reason for not filling the SC seat is that the selection committee will keep vacant for filling by other community person on contractual basis. This is happening in other IITs too.

    • 32 selvan

      it is true.

    • 33 RAVI

I agree to you Selvan, There are many Myths propagated by “Manuwadi’s” that there are no talented people in Reserved Category to keep the Reserved Category seats vacant, Although there are too many untalented General category people who get the job because of “Lobby System” prevailing in the higher education. No one questions if any seat remains unfilled even 20 candidates with decent qualification appear for single position in SC/ST category but General Category vacancies are filled with some untalented people but never left vacant.

  20. 38 Vikal Sharma

Why is the Corruption Government silent on these issues? I don’t know who will save the India.

  21. 39 Prasoon

Are you for real? Man! I can’t believe you. First, you get to study in an institution like the IITK (when you clearly do not deserve to be in it), where countless students dream to study, and then you whine that the system is biased. Biased? Oh really? Wonder what got you in IITK in the first place. Toughen up, if not for you sake, then, out of respect for this institute.

Seriously! I myself study at IIT Roorkee. And guess where I wanted to go – IITK. But I couldn’t. The reason – I couldn’t get enough marks to get a good branch at IITK. Know why that is? That’s because ONLY the best students, at least in the GN category, that took the JEE got the opportunity to actually step foot in the institute. And then there’s people like you. You want the government to come and feed you! Here in IITR, I have people that got 100 marks less than me in JEE and are still in the top branches (if you aren’t as dumb as your post, you’ll know what these branches are). And, now that they have gotten in, all they do all day is drink, smoke, inhale diluter fluids and what not. They do not WANT to make good of the opportunity given tio them. But they are still better than you – for they do not whine! I have SC candidates in my batch that are failing in 7 out of the 7 subjects.

But there’s also a good side to it. Quite a number of OBC candidates have performed really well. As a matter of fact, some of them are among the class toppers. Now you tell me, who is to blame? When some guys can get a 10 pointer in a difficult course, then why almost 30% of the reserved population do poorly – and almost 50% of them fail (don’t forget I’m talking of the difficult courses). I know your kind; and I am not talking of the caste. Your type of lame, good-for-nothing people are in every institute. Best I can hope is that you’ll find out exactly who is being discriminated – you or that student who failed to clear the GN cutoff by one mark!

    • 40 Rahul

A man, you have to learn a lot of thinks in Indian system. Without knowing anything about the India, stop blaming SC/ST community. Answer the following questions. Does the quality come by birth? Can you live on the Earth without foods? Can you accept Rs.100 per month after completion of your degree successfully? Can we pay Rs. 1 lakh per month for agricultural labours? (because without foods, scientists / professors / class firs students can not live on the Earth). Why are majority SC/ST people in poverty? Why are majority birahmins / upper caste people rich? Are you ready to work as a agricultural labour / building construction worker / other construction worker after completion of your degree successfully? Who created caste systems? Why does the other upper caste people not allow SC/ST people to grow? Shall we remove the birahmin poojaari (priests) from Indian temples like thirupathi and allow the SC/ST people to do Pooja daily in Indian temple?

    • 41 RAVI

      Dear Prasoon,

I may not agree to your opinion but if you are so talented, please let me know the reason behind the good performance of “ALL General” followed by “SOME OBC” category. Why always “ALL” SC/ST category (according to you) students can’t perform? Is there any “Genetic” or “Social” problem with such students for poor performance? Why the performance of students decreases as we move down the “Hierarchy” of “Caste System” made by “Brahmins”. Whats the “Caste” of majority of Professors and Administrators serving in IIT’s. Even if these Professors are so qualified, are they really “Unbiased” in terms of “Caste”. Remember “Brahmins” were always educated in the Indian System of Education BUT they were never “Unbiased” and History is a proof of that. Hence “Qualification” of any individual is not a “Guarantee” of his “Unbiased behavior”.

  22. 42 Rahul

What is difference between a IITK Professor’s son and an agricultural labour’s son? An IITK Professor’s son can get admission in IIT Kanpur very easily through JEE. An agricultural labour’s son will be very difficult to get admission in IIT Kanpur through JEE. if an agricultural labour’s son gets admission in IIT Khanpur through JEE, then he is very great. In this case the IITK professors, who get salary from public money, will assist to the agricultural labour’s son to improve his quality in education in many ways. A IITK Professor get more than Rs.1.25 lakh per month as salary. Now IIT Directors are saying that quality people in India are not available for teaching in IITs. I know that what IIT Directors are doing presently. They are looting public money in different ways. Majority IITs Directors are corrupted persons. They are recruiting only relatives, known persons, and working Professors’ wives as faculty and staff. They didn’t follow acts and statutes / Govt rules.

A Letter By Sh. R.P. Mishra-I am a senior citizen of Kanpur and continuously fighting against corruption prevailing in society in general and in particular at IIT Kanpur which is an Institute of excellence and was a dream project of Late Prime Minister Shri Jawahar Lal Nehru.

IITs are at the top because of its honest and impartial way of working. Corruption In IITs cannot be imagined. That’s why I am more concerned about the existing corruption, heavy financial irregularities and illegal activities spreading its wing in IIT Kanpur by its present Director, IIT Kanpur, Prof. Sanjay G Dhande and his team. The same has been detailed by me in my above referred letter dated 30-8-2011. Surprisingly no action has been taken by any of the authorities resulting in more corruption, financial irregularities, harassment/exploitation of honest and dedicated staff and faculty with open hands and without any fear.

As I was expecting in my above referred letter regarding the recruitment process for different key positions, recently Mr. C P Singh has been appointed as Deputy Registrar ignoring all the rules and regulations. The authorities are so fearless that they are even least bothered to kill the rights of minorities, SC/ST and OBC. There were four senior Assistant Registrars (two from minorities, one from SC community and one from OBC) to Mr. C P Singh. All four senior officers have been ditched and Mr. C P Singh has been given appointment as Deputy Registrar. The selection committee and interview was only a formality. This is not the first time that C P Singh has been given out of turn advantage. His appointment as Assistant Registrar was also illegal and at that time he was not eligible for this post. If a proper enquiry is done, all facts and truth will be revealed. In fact Mr. C P Singh is involved rigorously in mall practicing, financial irregularities, harassing staff physically and criminally to the extent of their service termination/legally threatening and other illegal activities. Those who oppose or dare to open mouth against prevailing corruption in the Institute by Prof. Dhande, Mr. C P Singh as Legal Officer of the Institute, threaten them for imposing illegal charges against them including court case and termination of their services. The legal expenses in the Institute have gone up considerably because of such false cases. Many staff members have been victimized. At present a lot of resentment and fear are there among the staff and faculty. But due to ‘Gundagardi and threatening nobody is ready to come in front and speak. I have tried many times to get support from the employees of IIT Kanpur to support my fight against corruption In IIT Kanpur but they are not ready because of fear of losing their jobs as already some of them have lost the same.

There are number of civil and criminal cases including kidnapping, rape, life threatening, financial irregularities pending in court against Mr. C P Singh. One heinous criminal case of U/S 364 I.P.C (kidnaping) is pending before the honorable Supreme court of India Case No.2828/2011 (enclosed copy of case status) & District court ACMM 4th Kanpur.

It is highly disgusting and shocking that how a person of such a background can be given such a senior administrative position. The level of corruption is so high and fearless in the Institute that The Director, Deputy Director, Registrar, BOG members and the Chairman, BOG everybody knows all these facts very well but did not object such illegal appointments.

The IITs are well known for its fair and impartial selection of candidates through JEE and GATE exams for admission in IITs. If a person having a criminal background and whose integrity is completely doubtful is appointed on key positions in IIT ignoring all rules and regulation willingly, one can imagine what would happen to the system which can damage the career of talented and bright candidates who are the future of this country.

Now you can understand why I am so concerned about the corruption in IIT Kanpur. On the basis of the above, I request you with folded hands for the followings:

    (1) Do the proper enquiry on prevailing corruption in IIT Kanpur making base of my findings.
    (2) The term of Prof. S G Dhande as Director IIT Kanpur has been completed and he is running on extended period upto 30-6-2012. He should be relieved immediately from the present post of Director, IIT Kanpur.
    (3) If he is still allowed to continue as Director on extended period, he must be stopped to take any major decision including appointments in the Institute.
    (4) Proper inquiry should be made against all appointment made/recommended by S G Dhande in the Institute including the appointment of Superintendent Engineer, Registrar, Deans and other important posts.
    (5) Proper enquiry against the illegal appointment of C P Singh on the posts of Assistant Registrar and Deputy Registrar and his involvement in all illegal activities.
    (6) I/we strongly oppose the human violence of muslims at IIT Kanpur our country needs so many muslims like A.P.J Abdul Kalaam, A.R.Rahman & Others in this context I strongly oppose & going to anshan of 24 hours on 3RD December 2011 10 A.M at IIT Police out post Temple & in future same will be continued, I will compeld to sit for anshan for long period.

  24. 44 R.P.Mishra

Are you want corruption? Are you want to harassment of minorities?

The whole aforesaid information is not for entertainment, Gossip or a story, requested to please read it and try to understand the feelings of sufferer. I am awaiting your valuable opinions, suggestions in the interest of IITK.

Corruption in IIT Kanpur- part -2

I am a senior citizen of Kanpur and continuously fighting against corruption prevailing in society in general and in particular at IIT Kanpur which is an Institute of excellence and was a dream project of Late Prime Minister Shri Jawahar Lal Nehru.

IIT Kharagpur – Officiating Registrar T K Ghosal’s son was appointed as Network Engineer of IIT Kharagpur illegally. Many candidates from reputed Institutes with suitable qualifications and experiences appeared in the interview for the post of Network Engineer (Group A Poat), but IIT Kharagpur-Director Prof D Acharya appointed Ghosal’s son as Network Engineer without considering merit such as educations, desirable qualifications, experiences. Ghosal’s son does not have any knowledge/skills in programming language and network programming. Even he does not have communication skill in english.

Human resource ministry should look into this. They can run a trial by changing the names and caste of students without informing faculty and assess if caste discrimination exists or not? Serious action should be taken if proven.

  27. 47 Concerned Indian

Bhaiyon aur bheno agar aap nahi padenge, agar IIT ki padhai nahi ho pati aapse to aap ko nikal diya jayega. Pretty simple isn’t it.
Stop acting like cowards behind the shield of discrimination. Jai Hind 🙂

  28. 48 Your True Friend

Sincere reply to every point of your letter:

    1. The system you mentioned is for every student of IIT Kanpur and there are specific criteria for each of it which doen’t include any point related to the caste system. I have seen many GE category students terminated from IIT Kanpur. For your information every institute have these kind of rules to maintain the standard.

    2. The behavior of the professors is same for every student in the class and I don’t think category is written on your face so he specially don’t answer your doubts. I have even received a reply that “we are here mainly for the research, teaching is not our main job here. So don’t ask silly questions, try to find out on your own” from a professor. So there are some professors whose attitude is not good about teaching but they are only few!

    3. Regarding the termination in IIT Kanpur they have a clear basis that either you perform well in the institute or you have a genuine reason for the bad performance and its also mentioned in the entrance brochure of IIT. Whatever being quoted in the newspaper but I have seen this particular instance with my eyes.

    4. You have mentioned 6 cases and as per you only 2 are SC students, So you want SC/ST students to be immortal?. Everyone knows that academic pressure is the main reason of suicides in IIT Kanpur and its not specific for any category however administration should focus on the reason behind the suicides but not the way you want to!

    5. Why do you think there should be a caste representative there? Is in a hearing in a legal court do they provide some caste based representative? I don’t think so! If a student is not performing up to the mark without any genuine reason, then administration have to take some actions. This happens in every institute or school in the world.

Btw isn’t it quite amazing when we talk bill gates is a college dropout and he did extremely well in life rather then rattling about the termination on the basis of some caste system or something. Everyone is not meant to be an engineer, if you are not able to adjust in current curriculum then you must switch it. Even nature follows the rule ” survival of the fittest” .

    6. Regarding the grading policy i do agree that they should adopt the 8-9-10 system but they say we are following international grading system. FYI : 6-8-10 is followed in every international university. Regarding your example don’t lie to people, we all know the grading many times you het A grade at 60 marks! So its not equivalent to what it is(i.e A=10 but it doesn’t mean you got 100 marks).

    7. Please tell me any exam in the world which don’t require the name & roll number. I mean your point of view to see things is just pathetic man. Every professor provides a marking scheme and you can challenge him at any time if hes not following it. Btw as per my experience you don’t need to say anything to him cause exam papers are checked 3 times once by the TA and twice by the professor.

    8. As you know termination is not based on a single semester or single exam you know that its totally based on your cumulative performance so please don’t blame anyone for your precious time.

9,10,11,12 : As I said above anyone must need a genuine reason to support his re-appeal cause Institute & Government is not going to waste the resources for null outcome even if you will again get a chance to study in IIT, you have to perform up to the mark. Reservation is only to provide a chance to study to the underdeveloped but not to help them in the academic part i.e they can’t lower the requirement of a b.tech degree for any caste/person.

For your information I am a dropout of IIT Kanpur in the duration you wrote the above melodrama, a kind suggestion for you : Please face whatever comes in your path besides of finding a reason to hide!”

  29. 49 An IITian and SC

Well.. this is my 5th year in IIT Kanpur and I am yet to see any discrimination based upon caste. I have seen many GE, OBC and SC students getting terminated based on Academic record. As far as your points about discrimination go,

    1. Almost none of the professors know about the caste of the students ( Most professors know names of students who are regular in class and asks questions ( Depending on the time available Profs often answers even the most silly things possible) ).

    2. So if the student with 59 marks is Awarded C then what about someone with 58 marks…? It is same for GE students too.

    3. I think that for most of the things – “Look it up on Google” is a good answer because Profs’ lectures are in tight schedule, they can give you a 1 minute hint of the answer but not the proper 2 hour explanation in class. If you really have a doubt then first put some effort then get an appointment and meet him some time other than in class ( It works most of the time ).

    4. Seriously ” less marks due to caste” how in the world did you come up with it?

    5. Concrete reasons for rejecting the appeal -> Your academic performance. They don’t have to provide any other concrete reason but you are supposed to provide concrete reason for your poor performance ( and what can you do to improve it). If you don’t provide any satisfactory reason in your appeal, it wont get accepted.

How are you are so sure that Professors don’t know about the caste of the student? It seems you have done the “Lie Detector Test” of all the professors of IIT. It seems you are extra brilliant student of IITK so you should leave IIT and do all your studies and inversions sitting at home by looking at “GOOGLE”. It seems this guy is either having a “Fake Caste Certificate” or just posting in the name of SC student. Its the duty of the teachers to take care of all the students having any doubts and questions irrespective of his/her intelligence. It seems IIT professors are just eating in the name of their institution and have no responsibility towards the society as a whole.

Who ever is the writer of this blog I just want to say *uck you !!!!!!
I spend 4 years of my life in IITK and never seen any type of discrimination by professors, counselling service or students . I can bet that if you will rank the colleges in India on the grounds of discrimination faced by students you will find IITK’s name at the end of the list . Not even a single point written here is true and facts are molded . Virus is not in IIT Kanpur …….. VIRUS IS IN YOUR MENTALITY ……… and people like you dont deserve to be here .

    Yours Sincerely
    A student

  31. First u ask for more and more reservation, then u accuse the system of being biased against u. The real problem is that undeserving students are admitted into the institute in the name of reservation. And when they have to compete with general category students without any unfair advantages or head-starts, they fall short and cry foul. I think the best solution is, as someone pointed out earlier, to make a DIT (Dalit Institute of Technology) only for SC/ST students and give it all the funding and infra-structure that an IIT enjoys, but with the provision that ONLY Dalits are to be admitted and no one will ever fail an exam, once they are admitted into that institute. Even if someone submits a blank answer-script, they should be given full marks.
I think the SC/ST students will be happy with this arrangement, as their degrees will not be extended and they will have an easy time at college; the other students will also be happy as they won’t have to carry with them the vestigial component of reserved category students dragging them back and getting unfair advantages over them at every stage in life.

    • 54 Manuwadi by BIRTH

I think there is a need to open a institute (Manuwadi’s Institute of Technology) MIT for all you f**king manuwadi’s. This 20% population of this country, claiming to have only grey matter with them is really sick. Its good to open such institutes and all you assh**les should be admitted to serve USA or any other developed country for money making. These guys think that they are only running this country. The above posts made by Manuwadi’s shows there mindset and the professors (highly qualified people of this country) are not an exception to that who have similar mindset. They think India exists only in IIT’s and they all are above this world. Such manuwadi’s only know best how to praise themselves who are actually good for nothing. Even after having reservation for SC/ST for last 65 years, there is limited success in the upliftment of such deprived classes of the society and the credit goes to such manuwadi’s who practice their “Lobby system” in selection of faculties in these premier institutes. These manuwadi’s are fedup by “Reservation” in last 65 years and forget the age old supression of these down trodden classes by there f**cking ancestors. If they really want equality then leave the “Surnames” of your forefathers and preveledges you have got from them to get best education in your school days and then come for a fight. “RESERVATION LONG LIVE”.

        you are loser

  32. 57 Rohit

In short you want reservation to pass the exams also. First, reservation to get admission, no exam fee, free books, no college Fee et.

then reservation to get jobs, then reservation in promotion.

Now you want reservation to pass academic exams, then reservation for passing in first division also…Right?

i pity those young men who cannot walk a step without reservation..

    • 58 veer

they want such type of job in which no work but they get salary

  33. Hogwash.
    Period.
I am a student of IITK too (SC) and have never faced any discrimination solely on the basis of caste. It’s difficult for academically weak students and I agree some people are quite judgemental (like professors not being sympathetic towards weak students) but that is true for weak students of Gen/OBC too. The fact that poor academic performance correlates highly with students being SC/ST is not their problem.
I agree some affirmative action is needed for us to have more SC/ST profs. But this problem is true for other elite posts as well. How many SC/ST entrepreneurs do you see around?
Also, grading system has got nothing to do with caste. And for god’s sake start studying instead of wasting time cooking up theories.
