Lynched for loan: Caste-Virus 001BH2008

A Dalit man was beaten to death by his neighbours after he demanded his due payments from one of them at Dhaneshpur village Bihar’s Samastipur district.
Superintendent of Police Surendra Lal Das said on Friday that Lakendra Paswan (35) was tied with a bamboo tree and lynched for daring to ask for payment from one Heeralal Paswan.

The accused persons, however, alleged that Lakendra was drunk when he entered the house of Amarnath Paswan, Heeralal’s relative, and misbehaved with his wife, following which Amarnath and some other people of the Dalit hamlet beat him up to death on Thursday, according to the police chief.

A high level team of the state Human Rights Commission will make an in depth inquiry into the killing of a Dalit who was beaten to death, official sources said.

Amarnath Paswan had been taken into custody and efforts were on to arrest the other accused.
