2000 reborn in Nagpur


Over 2,000 people embraced Buddhism on Shramner Diksha at an event organised by the Ogawa Society at Deeksha Bhoomi on Friday, claimed the Society’s founder president Sulekha Kumbhare. Various organisations across the city and the Vidarbha region were organising several events to celebrate the Dhammachakra Pravartan Divas on October 21.

Thousands of devotees and many others willing to obtain ‘deeksha’ and be converted to Buddhism have already arrived in the city. It is also informed that a special programme is planned at Deeksha Bhoomi from 9 am on Sunday to mark the event when Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar embraced Buddhism. It will be followed by a mass conversion. A huge rally, led by Bhante Nagarjun Sasai Surai, will be taken out to Dragon Palace Temple in Kamptee.

The Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Smarak Samiti has organised a programme at Deeksha Bhoomi from 6 pm on Sunday. In another event, organised jointly by the World Buddhist Mission, Samata Sainik Dal, International Ambedkar Mission and the Phule Ambedkar Vidyarthi Sansad, thousands of people are expected to embrace Buddhism at the Industrial Training Institute on Saturday and Sunday.
