Sad development in American legislature

We saw a historic resolution. The first official US response to untouchability on LEGISLATIVE DAY OF JULY 23, 2007 . It was 110TH CONGRESS – FIRST SESSION DEBATE – The House proceeded with forty minutes of debate on H. Con. Res. 139. Considered under suspension of the rules. Mr. Sherman moved to suspend the rules and agree to the resolution, as amended.

However in a recent development a new bill was introduced in the same legislature that targetted a cut in american aid to India which is quite sad happening for suffering dalits in India.

This news went with absolutely no western media coverage. Accordingly, yesterday the US changed India from “developing nation” status to “transforming nation” status. The result is a 35% reduction in economic aid to India for 2008. Unfortunately, reductions under the new system will terminate US assistance in the areas of women’s rights, democracy, education and sanitation: areas most affecting Dalits.
