Kulakjal ‘Well’; now Atrocity Act applied 007MH2007


Forty-eight-year-old Madhukar Ghatge was hacked to death by villagers opposed to his digging the well even though it was in his field, police said.

A case under the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act was registered at Dahiwadi police station against 10 accused who allegedly belong to the upper castes, backward classes and minority community.

Satara’s Superintendent of Police Prakash Mutyal said all the accused were arrested within an hour of the incident occurring on the night of April 26. Police is now seem to be acting promptly  against those involved in the crime and a special team was deployed in the village, he said.

An uneasy calm prevailed in Kulakjal nine days after the killing. No untoward incident has been reported from the village, police said
